Petition to help new mums achieve their breastfeeding goals

Petition to help new mums achieve their breastfeeding goals

This is an international petition for you to sign. It is designed to update laws, world-wide, so that mothers of babies (especially breastfed babies) up to the age of TWO have the CHOICE to work from home. The world fertility rate is only 2.3 babies, so a total of 4 years of WFH is a tiny portion across a working mum’s life.

We now know WORKING FROM HOME WORKS!

This petition can’t cover all mums (eg mums driving ubers), but it covers a lot of mums. Office workers, doctors doing telehealth, distance ed teachers, etc etc. AND it’s a great start.

No mum ever wants to grovel to their (mostly male) boss to ask if they can work from home. Not now. Not ever.

Laws need immediate updating.

How will this help mums?

  • 90% of mums want to breastfeed their bubs but most have to quit due to work and other reasons. Many feel regret as a result. The World Health Organisation recommends exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and then complementary breastfeeding until the baby is 2. WFH will help mums achieve their breastfeeding goals.
  • The more babies that breastfeed, the healthier they are. And that means less of a drain on hospitals and health systems. That’s good for everyone because it means there is more money to spend on other things.
  • A huge amount of time is spent delivering babies to care centres/commuting to and from work and putting on the make-up/work outfits/doing hair. Many women will save 20 hours a week when these time draining activities are removed from their days. So, more time with bub.
  • Less drain on transport, so better for the environment.
  • Having the CHOICE to WFH gives mums more autonomy over their busy days.
  • Less stress for working mums of young bubs.
  • This sets the tone for keeping breastfed babies with their mums to allow them to breastfeed for the full two years recommended by the World Health Organisation.
